Balfour Beatty Integrated Track Team
Project/Location – TfL
Duration – Ongoing
Number of Tools/Assets – 500nr
Introduction
The Balfour Beatty Integrated Track Team carry out track renewal and maintenance for TfL on the London Underground & Overground.
The framework has been awarded for 4 years with a value of circa £250m.
Challenge
The ITT have historic issues with loss, damage and theft of plant and equipment. With a large workforce and portfolio of projects running simultaneously, it was hard to keep track of tool use and substantiate claims for loss and damages. They were looking for a simple solution to help keep track of their inventory and give access to key, real time data to the site management teams.
On a previous framework loss and damage of tools had amounted to approximately £1m.
By utilising the StoresMate system, the team get a real time overview of assets used on the project, enhancing visibility of tool usage.
Solution
The StoresMate system was implemented across the framework covering all aspects of the inventory including tools, survey equipment and consumables.
Both hired and owned tools were tagged and added to the project database enabling all transfers to be tracked, photo’s to be added at each transaction
All BB-ITT supervisors and foreman had StoresMate accounts set up along with sub- contract foreman ensuring full traceability of transfer of assets.
Benefits
The project team can track the use of tools and assets throughout the course of the project and monitor condition closely.
Consumable use can be monitored closely and user histories identify any repeat offenders.
The project team have real time data available on the status of the inventory allowing proactive decision making whilst enhancing margins through the reduction of losses and damages.
The project can protect profit margins and eliminate unnecessary cost.
